Who is Hafiz
It was the year 1929 in Ghaziabad, India. Our paternal grandfather, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Ghaziabadi finished memorizing the Holy Quran at the age of 11. At age 16, our great grandfather Haji Allaudin sent him to the prestigious Darul-Uloom Deoband Islamic Institute, where he studied theology under the leadership of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thai. By 1944, during the partition of India and Pakistan, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Ghaziabadi had become a prominent intellectual scholar and column writer in India. He became actively involved in the Pakistan Muslim League and worked closely with the founding fathers of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Quaid-e-Millat Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan. After the partition, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Ghaziabadi and his family migrated to Pakistan, where they settled in Karachi. In Karachi, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Ghaziabadi wrote for several newspapers including The Daily Jung, Dalianjam, and the weekly Agbare Jaha for more than 40 years. His weekly column “Kitaab aur Sunnat ki Roshni Mein” was one of the most read articles of the time. He worked closely with first Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan and later President Ayub Khan. He served as a key member of the Karachi Muslim League as president for Western and Central regions. He was later elected a city council member for Karachi Municipal Corporation, which he served for two terms. In 2000, his name was published as one of the 100 most influential religious scholars of the century in India and Pakistan. The government of Sindh also dedicated a road in Karachi Gulshan-e-Iqbal in his name, “Ghaziabadi Road”.
